Egusi Burger

    220g ground GuDee Egusi
    500g lean ground beef or chicken
    1 medium onion, finely chopped
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    80g breadcrumbs
    2 large eggs, beaten
    1 teaspoon ground chili pepper
    1 teaspoon ground cumin
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    Burger buns and toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, etc.) for serving

    1. Heat the vegetable oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onion until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
    2. In a mixing bowl, combine the Egusi, ground meat, sautéed onion and garlic, breadcrumbs, eggs, ground chilli pepper, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.
    3. Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.
    4. Preheat a grill or a non-stick pan over medium heat. Add a drizzle of oil to the grill or pan to prevent sticking.
    5. Cook the Egusi patties for about 30 minutes, turning halfway through.
    6. Remove the patties from the grill or pan and let them rest for a few minutes.
    7. Toast the burger buns if desired, then assemble the Egusi burgers by placing a patty on the bottom bun and adding desired toppings such as lettuce, tomato, and onion. Cover with the top bun and enjoy!
