220g ground GuDee Egusi
500g lean ground beef or chicken
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
80g breadcrumbs
2 large eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon ground chili pepper
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Burger buns and toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, etc.) for serving
- Heat the vegetable oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onion until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the Egusi, ground meat, sautéed onion and garlic, breadcrumbs, eggs, ground chilli pepper, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.
- Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.
- Preheat a grill or a non-stick pan over medium heat. Add a drizzle of oil to the grill or pan to prevent sticking.
- Cook the Egusi patties for about 30 minutes, turning halfway through.
- Remove the patties from the grill or pan and let them rest for a few minutes.
- Toast the burger buns if desired, then assemble the Egusi burgers by placing a patty on the bottom bun and adding desired toppings such as lettuce, tomato, and onion. Cover with the top bun and enjoy!
